Prevention Is Better Than Cure- Applies To Trailers Too!

If you are worried about the maintenance of your trailer, then you need to decide the maintenance schedule according to the amount of use of your trailer and the climatic conditions the trailer is in. To maintain your trailer and get most efficient service from it, the following may be helpful.

Check out the lights, pressure and nuts

Although they would take very little time, but you should always check out the lug nuts, lights, air pressure and the coupler. Just by simply turning on the headlights and emergency flashers, you would be able to check the lights except the back light, for which you would need the help of your friend. Lug nuts must be checked to be sure that they are accurately torque to the right specification. Air pressure will fluctuate with the temperatures so you should refer to cold PSI rating for maintaining the air settings.Always make sure that the couplers are latched and pinned properly, whether they are adjustable or not.

Service the brakes at regular interval

Whether the trailer has an idler hub or brake hub, it is advisable to service them after each 5000 miles run. Always adjust the brakes while servicing the axle, if your trailer has brake axle. It is always better to check the brakes properly as if they are not functioning properly then you and other may face problem. Remove the brakes and do proper servicing so that the brakes operate normally and do not cause any problem when you are on the roads.

Before taking your trailer on the roads, it is always better to take a minute and walk around the trailer so that any probable problem can be detected and you can verify whether there is any problem or not. Accidents may occur any time, but as rightly said prevention is better than cure, so take good care of your vehicle to keep away potential issues of worry.
